Floor Lining- Stoke Ferry

Chemical Resistant Bund Lining

After carrying out an initial site survey, SLS were asked to change a floor area into a chemical resistant bund that would hold 22,000 litres of liquid should there be a spill. We were also asked to install a chemical resistant lining with enough resistance for the highly corrosive Formaldehyde.

SLS started by installing a concrete wall and joining this to existing walls, thus creating a bund.

Preparation of the Floor

Preparation of the floor is the most important part of the project if you want any floor system to adhere. SLS always use an industrial shot blaster when preparing concrete for a new chemical resistant bund lining. The shot blasting removes contamination and opens up the concrete giving a rough feel to the touch. Once blasted, SLS operatives applied an Epoxy based screed by trowel to cover all cracks and make the concrete level.

Application of Woven Roving

SLS would apply woven roving with the chemical resistant lining to the walls up to the required height. When creating a bund, reinforcement is of high importance in giving the required strength and of course stopping the stored chemical from leaking. Once the woven roving was applied, a primer was applied to the rest of the floor. This sealed the main bulk of the blasted concrete which helps reduce the amount of chemical resistant coating needed, thus reducing costs to the client.

Application of Chemical Coating

SLS operatives would apply a first coat for the chemical resistant bund lining to the walls to cover up pinholes in the woven roving. They would then apply a coat of chemical resistant floor coating to the entire floor area before donning spike shoes and covering the entire floor in a quartz anti-skid aggregate.

Finished Chemical Resistant Floor Coating

The following day SLS operatives would sweep off excess aggregate before application of a tape line to the walls to obtain a straight line.

They would then apply a final coat of chemical resistant coating to the entire wall and floor area. The entire floor lining comes with a 10 year maintenance free guarantee.

We received a call from the client. They were so pleased with the chemical reistant bund lining we were invited back to carry out a full survey for more works on the same site.

Whilst there, the client showed us around the bund, including their shiney new ramp and how the bund was being put to good use. Another job well done!

SLS not only do Epoxy floors, we also install Polyaspartic floor coatings!
