Fibreglass Roof Lining

Fibreglass gulley lining solution

Specialist Lining Services by Eurotank won a prestigious fibreglass roof lining contract for a large reservoir roof repair.  A well known utilities company based in the North West enlisted our expertise to fix an ongoing issue with the existing roofing.  The roof was of concrete construction with aluminium cladding panels for water runoff. 36 drainage channels from between 100 liner metres and 200 linear metres in the shape of a circle went to an outside perimeter.  This split off into 4, each with a singular drain for the water to go.

GRP reservoir lining

The concrete was leaking and as a result had been a constant problem for the client.  Attempts to repair the existing roof had been made.  These included Epoxy lining, felt and bitumen. However all of these had subsequently failed.

As a result Specialist Lining Services by Eurotank quoted to install a GRP reservoir lining as the solution.

By installing a Fibreglass roof lining to the concrete channels, we would essentially be applying a solid piece of plastic inside each gulley.  Therefore making it a completely water tight lining.

Overall 4500 square meters of surface area required GRP lining!

Due to the sensitive location of the works grit blasting was not going to be a viable option for preparation. Manual preparation was the option chosen instead. Cuts were made in the concrete and diamond wheels were used to ground back the old paint.  The preparation took a total of 4 working weeks to do. This included jet washing the channels as well as manually scraping off 50 years of moss growth!

Once preparation was complete polyester resin was used to prime the entire area. This would make it a lot easier to clean up the water after rainfall.

The laminate consisted of a singular sheet of 600gram chopped strand matting with 50mm overlaps between sheets imbedded in polyester resin. We applied a pigmented resin coat to seal and strengthen the laminate.  We applied a smooth flow coat in grey to finish.

The whole works took 12 weeks to complete much to the delight of the customer.  For all your fibreglass roof lining requirements please get in contact with us.
