A Well Needed Work Jolly For SLS
One of my favourite work trips of 2021 was to Roscrea Co Tipperary in Ireland. The customer had an issue with water inside their petrol which was causing issues locally. This would be the first time since Brexit that SLS had gone on a ferry! Well, it was an experience just to get the paperwork to bring our vans over. The trip coincided with a softer form lockdown in Ireland so unfortunately, we never got to experience a pint of Guinness in a traditional Irish pub, now that was disappointing! Needless to say what we lacked in Guinness we gained in some fantastic cakes from our client Mulrooneys in Roscrea, highly recommend a visit there!
On our journey over we received a stern talking to at Dublin Docks and both vans got several fines for using the toll roads! Travel aside, the job itself was straightforward in the sense that we needed to get the lid and pipework removed, and the remainder of the fuel out, clean the vessel, stop the water ingress, grit blast the vessel, install a single skin GRP liner, spark test, refit the lid with new bolts and gasket, followed finally by a pressure test! All sounds straight forward hey?
The hard part was yet to come! We had to get a PCR Covid test done in order to return to England. and we were on the border line of our compulsory 10-day quarantine on day 8!
Ireland is a beautiful place but there were only two companies offering PCR tests to contractors, one being in Limerick and the other one in Dublin. Being as we were using Dublin Port we went for Limerick as we were pretty much in the middle of the two cities.
