Hardwearing Coating Systems for Storage Tanks

SLS enjoyed A nice drive up to East Kilbride in lovely Scotland to apply a hardwearing coating system to a storage tank.

The old tank has been given a new lease of life and for great benefits! This is a training tank used to teach operatives who will be working inside underground storage tanks. Normal confined space training is carried out in tunnels mimicking sewers. Having a tank like this will give trainees the opportunity to have a feel of what it is like inside a UST before venturing on site where they will be faced with far more hazardous conditions.

As the tank was being kept inside, the conditions permitted the usage of a C1 paint system. The tank was ground using abrasive wheels to STS2 standards and then degreased with a panel wipe.

A 3-coat system was utilised for this, which consisted of 2 coats of Interseal 670HS at 200 microns. It was then finished in bright (bring your sunglasses) yellow! This 10-metre long tank was completed in 3 days.
