GRP Preparation & Coating Process
First of all the tanks had a very old Rubber lining in place. This proved very difficult to remove as the glue was well and truly stuck!
SLS site team removed the top 500mm and 500mm from the base. All internal flanges were also completely stripped of the rubber. These areas were then grit blasted to SA 2.5 while the rest of the rubber was swept blasted.
Complete adhesion was not possible in this case, therefore a chemical resistant structural lining would need to be created. This consisted of a layer of 300gram chopped strand matting, a layer of 900gram woven roving & 2 x layers of 450 gram chopped strand matting & a surface veil. Therefore creating a self-supporting liner should it delaminate from the rubber.
The client was impressed with our solution to the issue. Subsequently coagulation GRP tank lining was applied to an additional 3 tanks in the same system. coupled with a 20-year warranty.
