We provide specialist lining services throughout the UK for all types of water tanks and containment vessels. One of our recent projects involved the re-lining of a human cess tank in Gatwick.
Specialist Lining Services by Eurotank were called in to survey a cess tank lining which appeared to be compromised.
Upon the initial survey of the inside of the cess tank lining, it was evident a large crack of around 40cm in length had formed along the side wall near the end cap. The crack was allowing groundwater to enter the tank, resulting in the tank filling up rather quickly.
The client was alerted to the issue when the high level alarm went off just 24 hours after the effluent had been removed from the cess tank.
The first job of trying to repair the damage is to relieve the water pressure from behind the crack, otherwise repair would be a struggle.
Once the waterflow had slowed down we would need to prepare a method to draw the theatre from the crack. This was done by drilling a point below the damage, and threading a tap into the cess tank to extract via a water pump.
Whilst the water was being diverted out of the cess tank via the water pump, the now dry damaged crack could be prepared.
This was done using a 4.5″ grinder. This roughs up the matting to create adhesion for the new resin and matting to adhere to. Once the matting had cured, the water pump could be switched off and the tap sealed-in using resin and matting.
The entire tank was thoroughly prepared using 110v sanders and sandpaper.
This is important for the adhesion of the new lining system, removal of the existing gel coat, and providing a rough etch.
Using a specialist resin based paste, the tank joiner was pasted before the entire tank was fibreglassed with 2 layers of 600csm and a layer of surface tissue and allowed to dry.
A pigment coat of resin was applied and allowed to dry before another sand to give perfect adhesion for the final coat.
The final gel coat was applied to give the tank a uniform finish.
The final picture of the re-lining of the cess tank shows that the damage is still visible, but completely sealed-in as well as the installed ball valve.
The tank was issued with a 10 year warranty by Specialist Lining Services by Eurotank Ltd.
Our client was delighted with our perseverance, hard work, health and safety, and especially our professional workmanship throughout the project.
