Coagulation Tank Lining Coventry

Our client had informed us that whilst on a factory shutdown they found their tank, a vital part of the companies paint production in Coventry, was leaking. There were 6 days to get the tank repaired and back into service in the shutdown period. Specialist Lining Services by Eurotank were delighted to undertake this tank lining challenge.

The coagulation tank was suffering with severe corrosion to the walls and the steel had many holes in the floor area. In order for a new lining to adhere to the steel, grit blasting preparation was needed to completely remove the corrosion and provie an SA 2.5 surface profile. This would ensure the new lining system would adhere to it properly.

Due to the chemical contents from solvents and paints, a VInyl Ester lining system was chosen. 2 layers of 450csm matting a chemical resistant veil embedded with Vinyl Ester resin. In total the surface area of the tank lining was 130m2.

A resin based paste was applied to the welds and floor/wall joints to assist adhesion. The first layer of 450csm matting was overlapped by 50mm, whilst the second layer was staggered, also with a 50mm overlap. A chemical resistant surface veil was placed over the top and embedded with Viny Ester resin.

Once the lining system had dried enough, imperfections were sanded using 80 grit sandpaper. 3 coats of Vinly Ester were applied to all the walls before a flood coat of Vinyl Ester was applied to the floor. Once the coats had dried enough, post curing could be carried out.

The top of the tank was covered with a large tarpaulin to create a heat trap. Using 2 large indirect fired diesel heaters, heat was pushed into the tank for 24 hours. Specialist lining services operatives worked in shifts to ensure the heaters were safe and had a constant heat supply coming out of them.
